The Hay Shed

Growing up on unceded lands of the Kalkadoon people, my formative years were spent amidst the rugged and remote landscapes of the outback mining town of Mount Isa, North West Queensland. Sunsets over the Selwyn Ranges painted a backdrop of nature’s resilient beauty, instilling in me a deep connection to place. The harsh environment, characterised by spinifex, rocky outcrops, and the rust-red hue of the land, profoundly influenced my early life and subsequent aesthetics.

Life took me beyond the bounds of the outback, with time spent living in the United Kingdom and Chile, South America. In these places, I often experienced life as an 'other,' navigating the complexities of cultural integration and identity. These experiences broadened my worldview, adding layers of depth to my understanding of place and belonging.  My story is also deeply entwined with matrilineal links to farming and through a feminist lens, I explore the stories and histories of farming and regional women to celebrate their incredible contributions to society.

I currently live on an ex-dairy farm in City of Moreton Bay with my family, working from my studio and gallery ‘The Hay Shed’.  I founded my Arts business THS Creative in 2022, also working as an educator, creative facilitator, community and visual artist, and artist-in-residence.

Family is utterly important to me, and you will often find my artwork signed ‘Codger’ - a nickname given to me as a toddler by my parents.
