Weaving Together Community
In this crafty and creative activation, participants will be invited to respond to a prompt by writing or drawing on fabric which will then be turned into a collaborative community created weaving. This workshop was presented at the 2025 Community Development Conference in Port Douglas and at the 2023 Dayboro Day festival. The completed weavings were gifted to the Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre and Barefoot Early Learning Centre for display at their facilities.
Crafty: clever, cunning
Craftivism (coined by Betsy Greer in 2003) inspires peaceful protest through creation, rather than negativity and violence, and has its roots in resistance movements.
“Craftivism is about reclaiming the slow process of creating by hand, with thought, with purpose and with love.”
From the Craftivism Manifesto, by Mary Callahan Baumstark et al pub. 2014
My attendance at the CD Queensland Conference was supported by City of Moreton Bay RADF and Arts Queensland through a Quick Response – Professional Development grant. The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and City of Moreton Bay to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
